Poulomee Roy, Ph.D. Student

Miss. Poulomee Roy is a PhD student in industrial and systems engineering at the University of Buffalo. Her research interests include assessing the vulnerability of critical infrastructure (e.g., power grids, structures, and transportation) under natural hazard scenarios, modeling equity-based risk assessment, and evaluating community resilience leveraging data-driven frameworks and artificial intelligence (AI) approaches. She completed her undergraduate studies in Civil Engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, India. During her undergraduate studies, she also published papers on the resilience of structures under tropospheric turbulence in Lecture Notes in Mechanical Engineering (Springer 2021). Upon completing her undergraduate studies, she joined ZS Associates as a decision scientist, where the primary objective was to streamline the decision-making process by answering the critical business questions of the client and counteract the effect of any market disrupters in the domain of pharmaceuticals. She obtained her master’s degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a focus in Data Analytics Engineering. Her master’s thesis focused on assessing inequity in resource allocation for marginalized communities under the wildfire scenario. She presented insights from her research at the Natural Hazard Conference 2024, Broomfield, CO. Her ongoing research projects emphasize the interdependency of critical infrastructures including the energy infrastructure under different hazard scenarios. She will present her research insights at the upcoming conference of the Society for Risk Analysis in 2024. Her expertise in machine learning, AI, and thematic analysis (for qualitative data), along with her critical thinking ability, has empowered the team to develop a multi-fold framework of RE integration.
